Aliwan Fiesta 2008

Posted on May 3, 2008 - Filed Under Events, festivals

Earlier was street dance competition of the Aliwan Fiesta held at Quirino Grandstand, Luneta. As a first timer, I was really excited to witness the said event. I went there with one of my travel partner in crime, Monic. When we arrived at the venue we started taking photos right away.

Our first stop was the Aliwan float for it caught our eyes first. When the time comes for us to take a photo of the contingent down came the rain :( and it dampen the festive mood of the people. And of course it was one of the reason why the fiesta started so late, aside for the usual Filipino time. Imagine, from 4:00pm as the schedule said, it started around 6:15PM. So, goodluck to all photographer and photographer wannabees hehehe…

Updates and photos will be posted tomorrow or the next day ‘coz my ISP provider is having a problem right now and I can’t upload photos and open some website. Just wish by tomorrow it will all be fix. Hoping :)

This is a Carabao-drawn Caretela

Caretela  is a horse-drawn carriage used as a mode of transportation in the Philippines up till the ‘60. Now a days you can only see a Caretela in the Walled City or Intramuros, and in the province (like Vigan, Ilocos, Naga, etc). You can also see a Caretela that uses Carabao (Water Buffalo) instead of a horse in some part of the Country for some small time farmers still used this in their work.

Top Regional Entries in 2008 Aliwan Fiesta Streetdance Competition

Posted on April 21, 2008 - Filed Under News, festivals

Just as easily as they party, Filipinos find an excuse to dance – for leisure or entertainment. . .as a manifestation of worship. . .or as a social valve for relationships. For this year’s Aliwan Fiesta – the annual cultural extravaganza organized by Manila Broadcasting Company and the Cultural Center of the Philippines in cooperation with the cities of Manila and Pasay – dance in its myriad forms once more takes centrestage, as interpreted in the festival context by contingents from various regions all over the country. As early as January, the roster of entries had reached the maximum number set by the organizers – solid proof of how keenly anticipated the festival is.

Yehey! Finally, I already visited the Manila Ocean Park. I’ve been planning on going to the park during the opening day but I wasn’t able to go ‘coz we all know that opening days are always jam packed so, I decided to go there 2-3 weeks after. But unfortunately, I was busy with things so I wasn’t able to go as well. But last week when my niece had her training in Tagaytay she spends 5days with us here in Manila, before going back to Bacolod. So when she asked me to go with her in Manila Ocean Park I said yes right away.
