New Attraction for Dinagyang 2009
The city government assured this year’s Dinagyang Festival will have additional attraction that tourists and visitors can look forward to.
City Tourism Officer Benito Jimena said foremost in the list of enticements are the three-day “Luces in the Sky”, “Wanders”, and the “Salvo of a Thousand Drums.”
The three-day “Luces in the Sky” is a follow-up of the successful fireworks display during last year’s Dinagyang, which featured national and local pyrotechnic manufacturers.
Now on its second year, “Luces in the Sky” will be held on January 23 to 25, during the highlights of Dinagyang.
“Wanders”, on the other hand, is the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation’s entertainment spectacle, combining theater, circus, acrobats, dances and concerts in one extravaganza.
This will be held at the Iloilo Sports Complex in the awarding ceremony of Dinagyang on January 25.
Jimena said it will be the first time that “Wanders” will perform in a local festival, and Iloilo city is fortunate to have the show here.
Meanwhile, the “Salvo of a Thousand Drums” is a combined performance of all tribes joining the festival.
Plans are still being finalized, but Jimena said it will be much like the Olympics opening program, with the tribes dancing to one tune, and with choreographed movements.
Dinagyang, a festival in honor of the Child Jesus, will be on January 14 to 25 this year.
It has been recognized as the country’s “best tourism event” for three straight years by the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines. (PNA)

If it’s only cheap to travel locally, Dinagyang is one of the festivities I’ve always wanted to experience first-hand.
