Calling all strawberry lovers.
Get ready and be prepared for the Municipality of La Trinidad in Benguet is now unfolding the 2009 Strawberry Festival from March 8 to 23, with the theme of “Sustaining Our Gains and Looking Beyond.” The Strawberry Festival is aimed at promoting La Trinidad as the “Strawberry Capital of the Philippines”. The said festivity also features not just strawberry products but also locally produced flowers, textiles, handicrafts and other products available in the region.
There are various activities lined up for the festival: an Agro Trade Fair, Strawberry Farm Tour and berry picking, 24-hour photo shoot competition, battle of the bands, flower arrangement competition, essay writing contest, Dumba ni Kabajo, various strawberry contest and the search for Ms. Strawberry Festival Queen 2009 and Mr. La Trinidad 2009 and this would be on March 22 to 23 which would eventually end the festival.
The main highlight of the 2009 Strawberry Festival will be on March 18, which would include a Civic and Float Parade followed by a 2009 Cultural Presentation or “Owik” that would end in an extravagant presentation of fireworks. Unfortunately this year, La Trinidad will no longer bake the giant strawberry cake but instead they will be giving out free cakes for the first 2009 visitors. The reason why they will no longer bake a giant strawberry cake according to Mayor Artemio Galwan is that they do not want to beat their own Guinness world record. They want other countries to beat them first.
