Some 50,000 visitors join strawberry festival
Some 50,000 visitors joined the local residents of this wide farming valley as it observed its eighth annual strawberry festival which had become one of the major tourist attractions in the Cordillera region in northern Luzon.
Mayor Artemio Galwan said the festival was further inspired by the recent recognition of strawberry as La Trinidad’s unique contribution to the national livelihood program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo called “One Town, One Product” (OTOP).
He said strawberry, which is grown extensively in 75 hectare farms and terraces here, has given the more than 3,000 local farmers a good source of income.
For many years ago, this reddish orange fruit has always good and available market either the fresh or processed products.
Among the most saleable strawberry processed products are wines, cakes, jams, candies, and lately strawberry feminine wash.
Galwan said the major activities of the month-long festival happened Wednesday. It included the strawberry float parade, trade fair, distribution of baked strawberry cakes and the “canao”, a traditional feast in the area. (PNA)
