Negros Oriental Governor Emilio Macias II has committed to help the local government of Dauin to further develop the twin springs in the mountain Barangay Baslay of the town.

The twin springs in Baslay have been a frequent destination of foreign and local tourists who wish to experience the perceived therapeutic sulfuric hot spring water.

It is believed to be an effective medicine for skin diseases and helps rejuvenates skin cells.

Governor Macias said he is interested in developing the area since it can draw more tourists to come and visit the province, but he stressed that the site must have the right facilities to cater to the needs of the visitors.

The governor emphasized the importance of addressing the solid and waste disposal which might cause pollution of the water source.

The provincial government has allocated some P2 million for the development of the twin springs.

Gov. Macias said he is happy that Dauin Mayor Rodrigo Alanano supported his plan to bring down the hot water to a kilometer and half from the spring source where a facility for senior citizens shall be built.

The municipal government owns nine hectares of vacant area downhill which could be used for the said facility.

Gov. Macias explained he made the suggestion of bringing down the hot water because the present area is not suitable for senior citizens who have weaker resistance because it requires rigorous climbing of the stairs leading to the existing dipping pools.
The twin springs in Baslay, Dauin are the only hot spring in Negros Oriental that have been developed into a tourism destination and will be a revenue generating facility for the municipality. (PNA)
