Visiting Baguio Cathedral
I have been to Baguio City before, but this is my first time to visit one of the most photographed buildings in the City of Pines – Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral, popularly known as Baguio Cathedral. It is located at the Cathedral Loop, adjacent to Session Road in Baguio City, Philippines.

The last time I was here, I wasn’t able to visit the place for we didn’t have enough time to tour the entire City, so when I was invited to join the Baguio trip last week I told myself that this time by hook or by crook I’ll go visit it. And I’m happy to say that I did with Mee-i of mekinudols.info. We accessed the Cathedral via the Session Road through more than 100-step stone staircase. And we were so tired from all the walking we had before going here that when we reached the top step we were almost short of breath, but we still made it!
Anyways, Baguio Cathedral was not part of our itinerary but we inserted it during the ukay-ukay time since it’s just a corner away from the drop of point and since we’re not going to buy anything. We also met Meei’s cousin, Tres, at the Cathedral and while they were catching up with things I was off taking photos of the place. I also went inside to pray and thank God for all the blessings He had given me.

Baguio Cathedral is the coolest Cathedral in the world for they have their own shopping center – the Porta Vaga, located beside the church. But unfortunately I forgot to take some photos of the shopping center. Well, maybe I can get a shot in the near future, crossing my fingers.

Baguio Cathedral History
The site where the cathedral currently stands was a hill referred to as “Kampo” by the Ibaloi people. In 1907, a Catholic mission was established by Belgian missionaries from the Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae, who named the site Mount Mary.
Construction on the cathedral itself was begun in 1920, under the leadership of the then-parish priest, Fr. Florimono Carlu. The building was completed by 1936, and consecrated that year, dedicated to Our Lady of Atonement.
During World War II, the cathedral served as an evacuation center. It withstood the carpet-bombing of Baguio City in 1945. The remains of thousands of bombing victims during the war are interred within the grounds of the cathedral. (wikipedia)
