Fifteen Thousand sky lanterns (15,000) will then be lit and delivered to the sky in UP Miagao this coming May 24, 2013 for the Inaugural Light of Peace Event. Let us join hands, offer our prayers and volunteer to light the lanterns for world peace.
“And at last I see the light
And it’s like the fog has lifted
And at last I see the light
And it’s like the sky is new
And it’s warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything looks different
Now that I see you”

THE INAUGURAL LIGHT OF PEACE EVENT IN THE PHILIPPINES: WORLD PEACE THROUGH INNER PEACE
UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES VISAYAS, MIAGAO, ILOILO PROVINCE, PHILIPPINES
MAY 24, 2013
The Inaugural Light of Peace Event is the first annual and international event of its kind to be held in the Philippines. The objective of the event is to promote world peace as a natural consequence of inner peace. If universal inner peace can be achieved then there would be no major conflicts since most conflicts can be traced from a lack of inner peace of the individual.
A time-honored and solemn method of achieving inner peace is through silence and prayer. Regardless of religious or political beliefs, meditation is often mentioned in the same breath with prayer. All religious systems in one form or another, use various methods of silence, stillness or meditation to achieve a state of inner peace most suited with effective prayer. The Middle Way Meditation Institute (MMI) teaches a very simple, easily duplicable, non-ritualistic and well established method of meditation. MMI does not favor nor promote any religious system but only seeks to share this method of meditation which can be used by anyone as a means to more satisfying prayer and more effective application of prayer to overcome negativity and succeed elegantly both in professional and personal lives.
In celebration of World Peace through Inner Peace, 10,000 ground lanterns will be lit at the University of the Philippines, Football Field, Miagao Campus in Iloilo on May 24, 2013. In keeping with the universality of the event, the leaders of the largest religious groups will say a short prayer for world peace in their respective traditions then a short period of silence will follow. Fifteen Thousand sky lanterns (15,000) will then be lit and delivered to the sky with all our prayers and wishes.
A team of experts from the MMI, with vast experience with similar events of this type in Thailand, Mongolia, Indonesia, South Africa and Jordan, are in close contact and coordination with the organizing team. All possible safety precautions with fire safety, air traffic coordination and environmental impact have been taken into consideration and we assure all participants that all means have been taken to avoid any untoward events.
A secondary goal of the event is to make an attempt at the Guinness World Record for the largest number of sky lanterns released in a single event. Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records will be present.
